By now, we should all be in self-isolation, keeping our vulnerable community safe and preventing the spread of COVID-19! This means that we are probably all feeling the confusion and anxiety around the situation, sometimes getting lost in that bubble and forgetting how we normally operate.
Here are some ways we can maintain some normality in isolation and keep up the eco-friendly lifestyle!
Buy legumes from your bulk food store!
With people panic buying canned goods, there is no better time to make the switch to dried legumes from your local bulk food store. Admittedly, they do take longer to cook than their canned alternative, BUT since we’re at home, you can have them simmering away while smashing out your uni work. Plus, they taste way better and you get to control the sodium and additives you put in! WIN-WIN.
Doing some gardening!
Not only will the fresh air does wonders for your mental health, but if you start a veggie garden you will get to see how amazing and satisfying it is to grow your own produce! Some plants that grow really well right now are spinach, kale, broccoli, cauliflower, snow peas, garlic, beetroot, carrot, lettuce, onion, lemons, mushrooms and strawberries. Yum!
Make your own bread
This is a fun way to reduce plastic packaging (no bread bags or tags) and to keep you entertained during the day. Making your own bread is super easy and cheap! The ingredients include flour, yeast, water and salt for a basic recipe. Not to mention, you won’t need to navigate the supermarket only to find the bread aisle with empty shelves anyway! Plus, the smell of homemade bread is TO DIE FOR. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it.
Move away from disposable sanitary products
There is an increasing number of sustainable sanitary products available, which is not only amazing for our environment but given the current panic buying of tampons, pads and liners, why not invest in a reusable solution that will ultimately save you stress? From period underwear to menstrual cups and organic washable pads, there is something for every woman and every preference!
During this difficult time, all we can control is our own decisions and movements, and it is important to take care of ourselves and stay true to who we are. We will get through this together x
